Domino – The Brachypelma smithi (Mexican Red Knee) Tarantula

Brachypelma smith Tarantula

Domino is my first pet tarantula. She, or maybe he, is a Brachypelma smithi also known as a Mexican Red Knee tarantula. Click the image above to see the latest photo!

I decided to set up a raspberry pi zero w fitted into a case with a pi camera V2 and a AM2302 humidity/temperature sensor to allow me to keep an eye on her when I’m not around. The raspberry pi takes a photo every minute, overlays the time/temp/humidity and uploads it to https://dominopi.incompletegeek.co.uk. The temp/humidity is from the larger enclosure and not her smaller pot but gives me a rough idea as to the conditions.

It took me a while to work out how to do this but, if you want to know more, just let me know in the comments. If there is enough interest I will do a write up of the process and post the python scripts I wrote.
